Food Service Worker

The primary purpose of the Food Service Worker, WG-3 position is to perform basic, routine food service tasks such as maintains food supply at service points checking labels and dates for freshness and safety, covers, labels, dates and stores leftovers, organizes work assignments.
Food Service:
Assembles bulk food and operates rethermalization equipment for cafeteria-style service.
Serves tray/meal items using point of service style meal service following master menus, tray tickets, or diet cards as guidance.
Checks that tray and food carts are at proper temperature prior to meal service.
Records temperatures of food and equipment and reports discrepancies to supervisor.
Sets up late trays from pre-assembled trays.
Seeks guidance from higher-grade employee or supervisor when unfamiliar with a diet restriction and appropriate food items for a tray.
Washes, peels, and cuts fruit and vegetables by hand or machine.
Assembles and mixes salad ingredients and dessert items.
Portions, plates, and garnishes salads, desserts and beverages.
Food /Tray Delivery:
Transports food delivery carts by hand or motorized vehicle to wards.
Delivers tray carts to and from rethermalization rooms, docks, carts.
Passes and collects patient trays according to procedure.
Returns soiled trays, pans, and utensils for cleaning and sanitation.
Sanitation / Cleaning:
Scrapes, sorts, soaks and racks soiled dishware, glasses and silverware.
Loads and unloads machine.
Scrubs cooking utensils and pans using utilizing three-sink and/or machine washing methods.
Operates washing machines; checks detergent level and records water temperatures on log.
Cleans washing machines and work areas after a meal.
Deep cleans and de-limes washing equipment by removing doors, screens, strainer pans and spray arms as assigned.
Collects trash and transports to disposal area.
Cleans floors, walls, shelves.
Ingredient Control Unit/Food Storage:
Labels all food items with contents and dates per labeling guidelines.
Breaks down and stores deliveries.
Rotates and stores perishable and non-perishable items.
Work Schedule:
Variable hours with rotating shifts, holidays and weekend may apply.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds.
Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.
e.
, heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc.
, and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds and pushing carts weighing approximately 500 pounds and require 18 pounds of force to initiate movement and 10 pounds of constant force to keep the food carts rolling.
Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation's.
Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc.

Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.
