Registered Nurse - Nurse on Duty (NOD)
Assesses patient incidences and gathers data from the involved staff and presents an information packet to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS) and the Chief Nurse for the area. Monitors veterans admitted to the medical center with pneumonia and intervenes to ensure the appropriate treatment is ordered and completes a quarterly report which is submitted to the QSV. Works with staff and gathers information to develop the daily ADPCS report. Works with patient care unit staff to build trust and encourage staff to voice concerns and issues so they can be addressed by nursing management. ACLS is preferred. Other duties include but are not limited to:
Supervise and direct staff taking into account competency and educational level of staff in delivering care; Ensure safe patient care is delivered to veterans based on unit staffing methodology; Coordinate overtime/compensatory time as needed to meet the unit needs; Review and investigate incidences and prepare reports for nursing leadership; Serves as a resource for unit staff in addressing questions and concerns that requires additional information to handle the situation; Responds to all Rapid Responses, Codes Blue and Orange; Audits restraint usage and works with staff to correct any deficiencies in a timely manner; Has responsibility of developing the monthly report on crash cart and AED monitoring for the Medical Center and prepares a report and submits to the CPR Committee; Work Schedule:
Rotating Shifts with evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays Financial Disclosure Report:

In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. Physical qualifications require the ability to stand, walk, bend, and move freely. Must be able to utilize good body mechanics in lifting or restraining patients. Must have good hearing, eyesight, and physical dexterity. Must be clean and neat in appearance. Must be emotionally stable and cooperative. Work is accomplished predominantly on the nursing unit and through escorting to various clinics or hospital areas. The physical surroundings involve working with the acute and chronically physically and mentally ill patients, which may cause discomfort related to negative verbal and physical activities from these patients.
