Lead Police Officer

The incumbent's area of responsibility extends over the Chillicothe Ohio VAMC and 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Duties include but are not limited to:
Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Keeps in touch with the status and progress of work, and makes day- to- day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly. Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work, and maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies. Gives on the job training to new Officers and acts as the Field Training Officer in accordance with the training plan and in accordance with established procedures and practices as a Lead Police Officer. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. Classification & Qualifications General Schedule Qualifications Standard, Police Officer (Lead), 0083 You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:
Competency 1 - Knowledge of operations and ability to investigate a crime scene, analyze facts, and prepare reports. Competency 2 - Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of specialized weapons and equipment, as well as the tactics for deploying them in emergency situations. Competency 3 - Skill in oral and written communication with individuals of varying backgrounds. Competency 4 - Ability to read and interpret complex regulatory materials relating to investigations and physical security requirements. Competency 5 - Knowledge of general and criminal law enforcement methods and techniques. Competency 6 - Ability to lead. Physical Requirements; The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, long hours of standing, walking, driving and similar activities. The incumbent must respond to alarms, pursue suspects, participate in training activities, climb stairs and walk during assigned foot patrols in and around large building, campus, and other physical settings. Agility, dexterity and strength are needed to pursue, apprehend and detain uncooperative suspects. On a regular and recurring basis the work requires strenuous exertion physically restraining disorderly individuals to prevent harm to others or the individual. Incumbents must be physically able to lift or carry injured or hurt persons, evacuate persons to safety during storms, disasters, fires or other emergencies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
